Transforming an existing image
Transforming an existing image means progressively building the right image from what already exists: changing the mood of a photo, adapting a validated visual, reworking an element without touching the rest. Before each transformation, one question: what must stay identical, and what must change? A directed transformation moves only what you have named.
Start from what exists
The goal is not always to generate a new image. Most of the time, a creative already has something: a photo, a composition, a visual the client has validated. The work consists in progressively building the right image from what already exists.
That is what image engines can do today: take an image as a starting point and transform it while respecting what they are asked to keep.
Three common situations
Changing the mood of an existing photo. The light, the season, the time of day, the material of a floor. You keep the subject, the framing, the composition; you change what surrounds them.
Adapting a validated visual. The client has approved an image. You need a version for another medium, another background, another dominant colour. You do not start from scratch: you transform, and what was validated stays recognisable.
Reworking an element without touching the rest. An object, a garment, a detail. There, the transformation becomes local: that is retouching by zone.
What we keep, what we change
Before each transformation, the question is the same: what must stay identical, and what must change? The more precise the answer, the more accurate the result. A "global" transformation moves everything a little; a directed transformation moves only what you have named.
That is why you do not regenerate an image that is almost right: you would lose what was already correct.
The engines that can transform
Not all models work the same way from an image: some start again from the image as a base, others understand an instruction in natural language. The page Image editing models explains the difference.
