Pose Director

Give a character a precise pose, picked from a bank of drawings seen from several angles, rather than describing it in words. The character keeps their face, their outfit and their rendering; only the pose changes. A tool of the Axiris studio, coming to the interface.

Pose Director is the Axiris tool for directing a character's pose. You pick a pose from a bank of drawings, seen from five angles, and the character in your image takes it: face, outfit, setting and rendering are kept, only the pose changes. A pose is shown, no longer described in words. It is a tool of the Axiris studio; it is coming to the online interface.

A pose is shown, not described

Describing a pose in words is the most thankless task in image generation. "Seated, one leg folded, hand on the ankle, three-quarter view": the model more or less understands, and every new run gives another reading. The character changes posture, then face, then outfit. You spend dozens of attempts on a pose that an illustrator sketches in ten seconds.

Pose Director replaces the description with the drawing. You start from an image of your character. You pick a pose from a bank of drawings, sorted by family, seen from five angles. The character takes the pose. Their face, their outfit as it is worn, the setting and the rendering of the start image are kept: it is the pose that changes, and only the pose.

What is kept, what is added

The drawing gives the inspiration for the pose; the instruction decides everything else. The tool writes that instruction for you: the pose in words, the camera angle, what is kept from the start image. You add whatever else you want: a gesture, an accessory, a light. Ready-made sentences, by family of poses, serve as a starting point.

Three choices say what the character keeps: their rendering, their outfit, or both. A failed output is corrected first in the instruction, in what it imposes or what it leaves out, not by running again at random.

The bank

The studio's bank is drawn in our own line: mannequins with no visible joints, so that no articulation circle ends up in the render. A pose can also arrive on its own: a drawing you upload is redrawn in our line before the character takes it.

What it is for

A series of visuals with the same character in ten attitudes. A catalogue model you turn around without reshooting the session. A fictional character you make act. With the character sheet, Pose Director holds the character from one image to the next; with Box Director, the pose taken goes into a composition where the rest does not move.
