Character Sheet Director

Build a character's sheet, several views cut out on a white background plus their definition, and use it as a reference so that the character stays the same from one image to the next and from one shot to the next. A tool of the Axiris studio, coming to the interface.

Character Sheet Director is the Axiris tool for holding a character. A character sheet is several views of the same character, each cut out on a white background, and their definition in words. The tool splits the sheet into separate views, links them to the character and hands them as a reference to Box Director and Timeline Director: the character stays the same from one image to the next and from one shot to the next. It is a tool of the Axiris studio; it is coming to the online interface.

The problem it solves

A character whose face changes between two images is not a character. It is the most visible flaw of image generation: the same description, ten draws, ten different people. For a series, a campaign, a comic, a film, it is a deal-breaker.

The character sheet has been the studios' answer for as long as studios have existed: the same character drawn from the front, in profile, in three-quarter view, from the back, with their outfit and their details. Character Sheet Director turns it into a reference that does the work.

What it does

It splits the sheet. A sheet often arrives as a single image: several views side by side, a title, annotations. Given as is, it misleads the model: several bodies in one image, and the words on the sheet get printed into the render. The tool splits the sheet into separate views, one per panel, up to nine.

It cuts out each view on a white background. A view of a character gets cut out; the sheet's background has no business being in the reference. The white background is applied view by view, never to the whole.

It defines the character. Who they are, what must never change about them, and which view shows them. This definition is written by the tool, not guessed by the model: a reference that is not named holds nothing.

It hands the sheet over as a reference. To Box Director, so that a box calls the character by their sheet, in the pose and the light of the scene. To Timeline Director, so that every shot starts from the same sheet, even when rendered without knowing the previous one. The character's voice is added to it; this is being tested in the studio.

What has been measured

A film of nine shots rendered independently, from a single sheet, and the character is the same from the first shot to the last: hair, eyes, material, markings. The control exists: the same shot rendered without the sheet gives someone else.

And a rule learnt on the pixels: a reference sheet carries only the subject. Title, logo, palette, technical text are all candidates for being printed into the image. A sheet is made for a human; a reference is reframed before it is used. That is what the tool does.

How you get one

A sheet can come from a cloud engine that renders several views (GPT Image 2.5); you then ask it for the views as separate images rather than one sheet, and splitting becomes the exception. With Pose Director, the character from the sheet then takes any pose.
