LoRA workflow: building a model that holds up in production

A LoRA that holds up in production is decided before training: a single goal, a dataset that is consistent on what you want it to learn and varied on everything else, captions that isolate what is constant. It is then judged on subjects it has not seen, you keep the version that holds, and it becomes one building block of the workflow, combined with references and corrected by zone like everything else.

Training is only one step

A LoRA teaches a model one precise thing: a style, a character, a material, a visual identity. If you do not yet know what it is, start with LoRA: specialising a model.

This page is about the how: what makes a LoRA hold up in production, or end up at the bottom of a folder.

goal → collection → selection → preparation → captions → training → tests → selection → production

Everything is decided before training

The goal. A LoRA for what? Keeping a character consistent across a series? Reproducing a studio's look? A LoRA that aims at two things at once holds neither.

The images. The dataset makes the result. Good images are consistent with each other on what you want to learn, and varied on everything else; otherwise the model also learns the background, the framing or the light you never asked it for. A bad batch does not become good because training technically succeeded.

The captions. Each image is described; the description states what is variable so that the model isolates what is constant.

The tests

A LoRA is judged on subjects it has not seen. Does the style hold in another scene? Does the character stay themselves under another light? Does it leave the rest of the image alone? You compare several versions, keep the one that holds, discard the others.

In production

A LoRA becomes one building block of the workflow, not the workflow: it is added to the engine, combined with references, and corrected like everything else, by zone when one part is wrong.

At Axiris, building a LoRA is part of setting up a workflow for a studio or a brand that needs visual continuity. See the offers.
