Retouching by zone (inpainting): correct without redoing everything
Retouching by zone (inpainting) corrects one part of an image without touching the rest: you mask the zone, describe what it should become, choose among the proposals, then freeze. A hand, a face, a product detail, a background or a material can be reworked without losing what was already good. At Axiris, "the rest does not move" is verified on the pixels at every pass.
Change one part, keep the rest
When an image is almost right, you do not throw it away because a hand is wrong. You correct the hand.
That is what retouching by zone, inpainting, makes possible: you mask the part to rework, you say what you want, and the engine works only there. The rest of the image is not touched.
How it works
1. You designate the zone: a mask, drawn as in any retouching software. 2. You describe what the zone should become, or simply "the same thing, but right". 3. The engine proposes several versions of the zone. You choose. 4. You freeze. The validated zone becomes final; you move on to the next.
At Axiris, "the rest does not move" is not a figure of speech: it is verified on the pixels at every pass. What is validated stays validated.
Typical cases
- a hand, a face, a gaze;
- a product detail (a label, a reflection, a seam);
- a background, a sky, a floor;
- a badly rendered text or graphic element;
- a material (a fabric, a metal, a skin).
Why it changes the trade
Without retouching by zone, every flaw forces you to rerun the whole image, and to lose everything that was already good. With it, the work becomes again what it has always been for a graphic designer: build, correct, validate, move on.
It is the heart of the Axiris method, extended to the whole image: building the image by zones.
The engines that can do it
Not all models correct a zone with the same precision. The page Image editing models says which ones can edit. The guide Bringing AI into a graphic designer's workflow shows the complete method.
