ComfyUI: understand, install, troubleshoot
ComfyUI Manager: installing and maintaining extensions
What the Manager does (search, install, update, disable custom nodes and models from within ComfyUI) and what it does not guarantee: compatibility.
ComfyUI Manager lets you search for, install, update or disable custom nodes and models without leaving ComfyUI, which greatly reduces manual operations. It does not guarantee compatibility: an update to ComfyUI, to an extension or to a Python library can break a component, and it is at the moment you update that you need to know what changed. At Axiris, the Manager manages; the diagnosis is done on the console and the real environment.
What the Manager does
ComfyUI Manager makes it easier to manage custom nodes, models and certain maintenance operations.
From the ComfyUI interface, it lets you search for an extension, install it, update it or disable it, and spot the missing nodes of a workflow you have just opened. It installs an extension by cloning its repository, which is the right way to do it: the extension knows where it comes from and can be updated.
The Manager greatly reduces the amount of manual work. It does not remove dependency problems.
A management tool, not a compatibility guarantee
When an extension causes an error, you still need to understand what changed.
An update to ComfyUI, to an extension or to a Python library can make certain components incompatible with each other. The Manager runs the update; it does not know whether the workflow that depends on that extension will still render the same thing afterwards.
That is why, at Axiris, we update knowing why, for an expected function or a fix, and we check afterwards: the launch console, then a reference workflow. "Update everything" just to see is the surest way to no longer know what broke.
The Manager is therefore used as a management tool, while the diagnosis stays based on the console and the real environment: the method is in Troubleshooting ComfyUI.

A workstation that holds over time
A production installation is maintained: extensions followed, updates chosen, a known state to come back to. It is part of the work when Axiris sets up a workstation with a creative, and it is already done on the machine in Switzerland delivered ready to a business.
